The 8 p.m. applause for Spain has slowly died down over the past few days. It’s sad. It was something that regulated our days.
We waited eagerly to gather on our front porch with all of our neighbors to cheer, applaud, and listen to the Spanish national anthem.
That delightful sound had become our “new normal.”
Now, that is gone . . . gradually fading into the distance.
What does that mean? Does that mean that we are heading into a new phase, a new stage of “normal” here in Spain?
Tonight, instead of applause, I heard church bells ring in the distance at 8 p.m.
It was strange and surprising . . . yet beautiful.
I have no idea why those church bells rang.
But, I wouldn’t mind . . . I wouldn’t mind having church bells ring every night at 8 p.m. to remind me, my family, Spain, and the rest of the world that everything is going to be okay, that we are going to survive, that we are going to get to the other side of this . . . because God still exists.
God is still here, even in the midst of the pandemic.
Let the church bells ring!
