Yesterday, I told you about my morning at the “safe house.” What I thought would be our regular, weekly jewelry-making session turned into a divine moment of storytelling. I sat on that park bench with my friend from a faraway land—a friend with a broken heart and a broken story.

I ended yesterday’s story, “Sex Trafficking—What Can I Do About It?” with these words . . .

“Some of you may not have the opportunity to volunteer in a safe house in your hometown. You may never have an open door to sit on a park bench, hand-in-hand, and listen to a woman’s heart-breaking story, to weep with her, and to share a torn Kleenex.

But, you can make a difference right where you are.

You don’t have to go to the other side of the world to make a difference. You don’t even have to leave your living room.

Are you wondering . . . “How?”

Come back tomorrow, and I’ll tell you how.”

I’m Back!

I’m back, and I’m going to tell you HOW!

When I returned home yesterday afternoon from the safe house, I opened my emails.

You won’t believe what I found! I had received an email from Starfish Project, announcing their new fundraising campaign called “Make Room at the Table.”

Coincidence?!

Coincidence? I don’t believe so—not for a moment. It was purely divine timing.

I receive emails from time-to-time from Starfish Project. They have a beautiful online jewelry shop—with a purpose! Their motto is “Wear Hope, Give Hope.”

Here’s why they do what they do:

“Starfish Project restores hope to exploited women in Asia. We provide life-changing opportunities through our Holistic Care Programs and our social enterprise where women create beautiful jewelry and become managers, accountants, graphic designers, and photographers.”

My words can’t begin to tell you about Starfish Project, but this video says it all.

Human Trafficking—We Can Make a Difference!

I can make a difference! You can make a difference!

I can make a difference right where I am. You can make a difference right where you are.

As I mentioned yesterday, you may never have a chance to sit down on a park bench next to a broken woman while she pours out her story.

However, each of these women’s stories are valuable and worth hearing.

An Invitation to Listen

I would like to invite you to pour a cup of tea, coffee (or your favorite drink), sit down comfortably, and listen to this woman’s story. Before you begin, I strongly advise you to grab a Kleenex (at least a “1/2 torn” Kleenex). You can’t watch Mae Lee’s 8-minute story without being deeply touched and shaken to the core.

You Made a Difference!

Do you know that you just made a difference? You just took eight minutes out of your busy day to listen to this woman’s story.

Listening to her story mattered. Loving her mattered. Caring for her mattered. Crying with her mattered. Sitting with her mattered.

You just made a difference—just by sitting down and listening to her story. Her voice has been silenced too long.

Thank you for listening.

I’ll tell you tomorrow how you can continue to make a difference.
