My friend just texted me from the airport as she was boarding her flight.

“Did you know that today is ‘World Sleep Day’?” she asked.

“It is? Then, why in the world am I awake?!” I responded, with a happy face at the end of my text.

I had no idea, did you?

Guess what I did? You know me! I put on my cultural awareness glasses and did some research.

Habits of Modern Life

According to the World Sleep Society, “World Sleep Day® is designed to raise awareness of sleep as a human privilege that is often compromised by the habits of modern life.”

Very interesting . . . yes, “habits of modern life.” Technology and a 24/7 lifestyle have certainly robbed us of our precious sleep. I hear more and more people complain of sleep problems, and life stress often wakes me in the night and early morning.

What about you? Are you getting enough sleep?

“World Sleep Day is an annual event, intended to be a celebration of sleep and a call to action on important issues related to sleep, including medicine, education, social aspects and driving. It is organized by the World Sleep Day Committee of World Sleep Society and aims to lessen the burden of sleep problems on society through better prevention and management of sleep disorders.”

That’s enough to convince me to at least take a good nap today. Check out See Beyond’s “9 Wonderful and Healthy Advantages of Taking a Nap”!

And, now that the kids are out of school for several weeks, due to the Coronavirus, we can certainly sleep in late in the morning and take time for some much-needed Spanish siestas.

I’m feeling sleeping . . . ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ . . . .
