I grieve.

When will this end?

Today, I stand with the Asian community in love and solidarity, I am sorry.

When will . . .

Hate turn to love?

Rejection turn to acceptance?

Expulsion turn to welcome?

Walls turn to doorways?

Anger turn to peace?

Frowns turn to smiles?

Division turn to unity?

Barriers turn to bridges?

Murder turn to birth?

Darkness turn to light?

Injustice turn to justice?

Mourning turn to dancing?

Death turn to life?

Difference turn to sameness?

Tears turn to laughter?

“You” turn to “we”?

“They” turn to “us”?

When?

I Heard a Story

Not long ago, I sat with an Asian-background couple. They told me their painful story of racism, mockery, rejection while living in a foreign land.

Racism . . . it has always been there, but it has intensified with the recent global pandemic.

It hasn’t helped that leaders of great nations make strong, accusatory declarations about the Asian community, all the while, pointing fingers at them.

It hasn’t helped.

It hasn’t encouraged us to open our arms, to love, to welcome, to accept.

When?

When will this stop? What will it take?

God have mercy.

Without a miracle from God, without God sowing seeds of love in our hearts, this will not end.

I grieve. God grieves.

When will this end?

It won’t stop until . . .

We can see beyond our differences. Here’s my personal journey.
